Best Zombie Movies and Books

This list is not in much of a particular order, I just didn't include anything I don't consider worth watching.

Dawn of the Dead
The 2004 version is my absolute favorite and never gets old, even though I don't like fast zombies much. Funny and cool.

Night of the Living, Dawn, and Day of the Dead
I'll just give the orig-trig the benefit of the doubt and say they're worth a watch but no longer the best.

World War Z
Pretty cool look at taking the zombie thing world wide.

Dead-Alive (aka Brain Dead)
Super wacky crazy gory zombie fun.

Shaun of the Dead
The humor has dimmed for me, but overall still great.

Fido
A world where zombies are basically slaves. A fun change-up on the genre.

Train to Busan
The absence of guns feels strange, but this heart-wrenching flick from Korea is brutal and tense. Look for an English remake to come.

The Girl With All The Gifts
An embarrassing plot point towards the end almost spoils this pretty interesting take on the genre, but it's still worth watching.

Cargo
Maybe the heart-wrenchiest of all zombie movies with top notch production and small scale.

REC
Some straight-up found-footage horror. Good.

The Crazies
Might be a stretch to call it "zombie," but it's close enough and fun.

Zombieland
Didn't like it at first but it grew on me when I just took it for what it is. The second one was equally good, sharing the strengths and weaknesses.

Warm Bodies
Likable and slick production, but not my fav take.

28 Days Later
Not quite "zombie" and not quite enjoyable to me. I thought the "Weeks" sequel was better.

The Dead
A somber and tense zombie outing in rural Africa.

Night of the Living Dead
The 1990 remake is a worthy view.

Juan of the Dead
Zombie comedy in Cuba.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Part raunchy comedy, part zombie movie. Not bad.

Wyrmwood
Style over story for sure, but a fun Mad Max-ish romp in Australia.

Biozombie
Wacky Japanese shopping mall invasion.

Dance of the Dead
Zombies go to prom.

Hide and Creep
Pretty funny low budgeter.

My Boyfriend's Back
Dumb guilty pleasure.

Zombie
Weird old Italian goodness.

Nightmare City
Intense old Italian goodness.

Dead Rising: Watchtower
Woulda been a lot better a half hour shorter.

Evil
Zombies in Greece.

Anna and the Apocalypse
Props for a cool idea, but it isn't pulled off super well.

Cooties
The great cast keeps this wacky one alive in spite of the abrupt ending.

Pontypool
An intense one with a weird mode of zombie transmission

Here Alone
You could nitpick some slow pacing but overall this low-budgeter was enjoyable and had tension.

Little Monsters
Heartwarming and funnier-than-not little adventure where some adults have to keep kindergartners alive during a zombie attack in Australia.

Also, I don't care for The Walking Dead, but Dead Set and Black Summer were mostly good.
